Latest news
August 30, 2019: If you have got the Galaxy S9/S9+ at AT&T, here is some good news. The carrier has begun rolling out a new update for its S9 sets that brings security patches for July and August 2019. Nothing else seems to be the part of the update, though. The August security update was recently released for the US Unlocked S9 sets too on 22nd August, but has been available for the Global unit since 12th August.

Android 10 update
Let’s discuss whether Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are eligible for Android 10 and if yes, when can we expect the Android 10 update to begin rolling out for the 2018 flagships.
Android 10 update release date
Here’s all you need to know about the expected release date of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S9.
- Both S9 and S9+ are eligible for Android 10
- The release date hasn’t been announced yet for S9 Android 10 update
- Global and some US S9 handsets may receive Android 10 beta in January 2020
- The stable Android 10 update is expected in mid-February 2020
- S9 and S9+ at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular should get stable Android 10 update March-April 2020
The Galaxy S9 is fully eligible for the Android 10 update. Google is working hard to add some great new features to Android 10, and that makes the update very worthy.
Expect the Android 10 beta to becomes available for global and US variants of the Galaxy S9 sometime in Jan-Feb 2020, around the same the stable Galaxy 10 Android 10 update begins rolling out for the users.
When will Galaxy S9 get Android 10 update?
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and S9 model | Android 10 release date |
Global | February 2020 (estimated) |
AT&T | March-April 2020 (estimated) |
Sprint | April 2020 (estimated) |
T-Mobile | March-April 2020 (estimated) |
Verizon | March-April 2020 (estimated) |
US Cellular | April 2020 (estimated) |
US Unlocked | April 2020 (estimated) |
Canada | April 2020 (estimated) |
The global S9 models are expected to receive the stable Android 10 update before the US and Canadian models, beginning January 2020.
With the S8 Pie rollout, we saw that T-Mobile and AT&T were first to begin the rollout, quickly followed by Verizon, but nearly all the carries were able to release the last major update for the S8 in short space of each other. We could see something similar happen with the S9 Android 10 update release too. If that happens, all the S9 handsets should be running Android 10 before the end of April 2020.
Related → Why Galaxy S9 update could release earlier
The S9’s Android 10 release couldn’t happen together with the Note 9 Android 10 update, just like S8’s Pie rollout happened with Note 8’s, but only after Samsung is done rolling out Android 10 for Galaxy S10 Plus, S10, and S10e and Galaxy Note 10.
Let’s just hope Samsung is able to roll out Android 10 for Galaxy S10 without any issues as that will not only ensure quicker release for the S9 and S9 Plus, but also a bug-free experience.

One UI 2.0 update
The S9 will also receive an updated custom interface in the form of One UI 2.0 as part of the Samsung Android 10 update.
It’s rumored that the Galaxy S11 will feature an even newer version in One UI 2.1, but the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy Note 9 will receive One UI 2.0.
The 2017 flagships, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and Galaxy Note 8, won’t be updated to One UI 2.0 and Android 10, in case you are wondering. No leaks are available for the new UI right now, so we have no idea how One UI 2.0 will look and feel like.
